Christian Practical Theology as a Convergent Discipline Responding to the Challenges of the Anthropocene
I am Kim Mi-sung of KPGM Anthropocene Missiology.
I. Why KPGM Anthropocene Missiology Focuses on the Anthropocene
KPGM Anthropocene Missiology focuses on the concept of the Anthropocene,
which most comprehensively captures the defining characteristics of our era.
This is because, in this era understood as the Anthropocene,
the possibility of a Sixth Mass Extinction is rapidly becoming a reality.
This crisis must be recognized as the most grave planetary-scale crisis confronting all of humanity,
regardless of nation, ethnicity, race, class, or religion.
KPGM Anthropocene Missiology,
as a Christian practical theology that responds to
this grave planetary-scale crisis,
recognizes the Anthropocene not only as a critical situation in which the possibility of a Sixth Mass Extinction is rapidly being realized,
but also as an era marking a decisive turning point in the history of all creation, including humanity.
It seeks to carry out the mission of deeply contemplating and practicing,
within the context of this era, the eschatological hope of which the Bible speaks.
This mission is to participate in the majestic and holy historical procession that fulfills
God's plan—predestined in Jesus Christ before the foundation of the world—
for God's ideal kingdom: "the new heavens and the new earth in which righteousness dwells."
This historical procession
is a march toward the new heavens and the new earth in which God's righteousness dwells,
where all peoples and all creation
will be united in Jesus Christ, who fills all things,
and will eternally praise the glory of God's grace.
